Watercolor Kirby
I'm learning how to use watercolor! And getting over my fear of coloring my art. This time wanted to focus on mixing colors while working with a simple image, so I chose Kirby this time around for practice. He's so cute! This is mostly done with one color and mixing in white or black to get the various shades and tints for pinks. The original color is his boot not in the shadow (or the shine mark).Yesterday when I tried this out, the painting was so ugly and the paper warped so bad even while taped down that I threw it out. Today before trying again I took the time to find some resources online to explain tint/hue to me and I made sure to swatch my colors before attempting to paint.
I also learned a bit about paper type and weight. I like using mixed media paper, especially because I want to mix watercolor with inks like I did here. However, if the weight is too light, the paper won't be able to handle as much wet media like watercolor. This is why my paper yesterday warped like crazy. Thankfully I had some heavier weighted mixed media paper laying around. Using that immediately improved my painting experience.Nov 4, 2020
