Arlon and Liliana - Spring Equinox - 2026
This Spring Equinox felt quieter than I expected, yet also more meaningful in a way I did not fully understand at first. While the world outside slowly changed from the softness of the cool months into the warmth of spring, I found myself returning to something familiar again. I made another digital artwork, and once more, it featured Liliana and Arlon—my original characters who have slowly become the mascots of what I imagine as my ideal romantic love. Every time I draw them, I feel like I am not only creating an image but also remembering something gentle that exists somewhere inside me.The idea for this particular artwork did not appear suddenly. It came from a memory that has stayed with me for almost a decade. When I was still much younger, I once saw an illustration inside a school textbook. It was only a small picture, probably something meant to show the season of spring, but for some reason it stayed with me long after the book itself disappeared. I cannot remember the exact lines or colours anymore, yet I still remember the feeling it gave me. It showed children standing under a tree, smiling, surrounded by flowers, birds, and soft sunlight. That simple image somehow stayed inside my mind all these years, and this Spring Equinox, I decided to recreate that feeling from memory.
Because the original picture is long gone, I did not try to copy it directly. Instead, I allowed the memory to guide me gently. I started with the idea of spring itself—the return of warmth, the soft brightness of the sky, and the quiet happiness that comes when the world feels alive again. From there, I knew that the children in the picture would be Liliana and Arlon. They always feel like the right figures to represent something pure and hopeful. In this artwork, I imagined them not as teenagers or adults, but as children again, because spring itself feels young and full of promise.
The scene takes place in a lush, flower-filled garden that feels peaceful and safe. Even without holding hands in this moment, their closeness makes it clear that they are together, enjoying the beauty of spring side by side.
Around them, the garden feels alive with movement. Small butterflies float gently in the air, their wings soft and colourful, adding a magical feeling to the scene. They are not flying quickly; instead, they move slowly, as if they also want to stay in this peaceful moment. It feels like a promise that gentle happiness still exists, even in small moments. When I painted it, I made sure the colours were soft and warm, not too bright, so it would feel like a natural part of the scene rather than something dramatic.
As I worked on this artwork, I realised that it is not only about spring itself. It is also about the feeling of remembering something kind and beautiful from the past. Even though the original textbook illustration is gone forever, the emotion it gave me is still here. By creating this piece, I feel as though I have brought that lost memory back in a new form.
Liliana and Arlon are not just characters in this artwork. They represent something very personal to me. They show a kind of love that is gentle, patient, and full of quiet understanding. By drawing them as children enjoying spring, I wanted to show that love does not always have to be complicated. Sometimes, it can be as simple as standing together in a beautiful place and feeling happy without needing to say anything at all.
When I finally finished the artwork, I stepped back and looked at it quietly for a long time. I did not feel excitement in a loud way. Instead, I felt calm. It was the kind of calm that comes when something feels complete, not perfect, but honest. The soft colours, the peaceful expressions, and the gentle light all came together to create something that feels warm and comforting.
In the end, this artwork reminds me why I continue to draw Liliana and Arlon again and again. They help me express feelings that are difficult to explain with words alone. They remind me that gentle love, quiet happiness, and simple beauty still exist, even in small moments.
