One thing I'm finding difficult to keep focused on is the limits of what I would consider scifi compared to fantasy. I'm probably not the only one that's had to stop and ask "wait, is this too close to magic or am I still okay?"
Sure, there's things like Thor where the tech is so advanced it's basically magic but then that ruins the integrity of the scifi I feel. If you're going to make the boundary so blurry, why not just go for fantasy?
Idk, it's a weird topic I guess, cuz it can also be justified that a civ that's a class III on the Kardashev scale IS so advanced that we as a species probably can't even comprehend their version of a smart phone because it's developed beyond our known limits of science.
Anyone else have these issues when laying out scifi rules? Or am I over thinking it too much?Apr 27, 2021
