Creating digital art has become more than just a hobby to me—it's now my way of bringing warmth, charm, and whimsical imagination into the world, especially through my beloved original characters, Liliana Oleander and Arlon Florian. These two are not just characters—they are mascots of my ideal version of romantic love: pure, wholesome, playful, and deeply affectionate. Every time I create another piece featuring them, it feels like I'm telling a new chapter of their ever-growing story. And today, I’m excited to share the latest artwork I’ve completed—one that puts the spotlight on Liliana alone in an ethereal, fairy-tale-like moment.This time, I decided to make Liliana the centre of attention. I wanted to present her not only as the beautiful child she is but also to portray her grace, innocence, and budding charm that complements the romantic essence she shares with Arlon. The artwork features Liliana as a little girl once again, caught in a moment of pure joy and elegant movement. But she’s not in her usual romper outfit this time. I dressed her up for something more special, inspired by a fashion trend I randomly came across while browsing Instagram. There was this trend where little girls wore dresses designed to resemble bouquets of flowers—lavish floral bodices with petals spilling outwards like blooming blossoms in motion. I was instantly captivated, and I knew right away that I wanted to translate that into the world of Liliana.
So I began sketching Liliana in this bouquet-inspired dress, and before I knew it, I was immersed in creating something that felt both delicate and striking. In the artwork, Liliana is seen standing against a bright, sunlit floral garden. The background blooms with colourful flowerbeds stretching in all directions under a blue sky speckled with gentle sparkles of daylight. The grass is rich green, and the blurred, painterly trees at a distance frame the scene, giving it that dreamy Kidlit vibe I’ve been practising.
But it’s Liliana who shines the most in this piece. Her dress is strapless and made to resemble a lush bouquet of tiny white roses, each flower meticulously textured with light and shadow to give the appearance of depth and softness. The bodice of the dress hugs her upper body, giving the impression that the petals are gently resting on her chest and shoulders like a soft floral blanket. The skirt of the dress is gathered and layered like delicate wrapping, almost like a luxurious ribbon that holds the flower arrangement together. Each ruffle was drawn with extra care to create the illusion of satin folds, soft yet crisp, complete with a bow at the waist that gives the entire ensemble a youthful and innocent finish.
Her ballet shoes are classic white with satin ribbons wrapped neatly around her ankles in a crisscross pattern. I gave her those shoes as a nod to the gracefulness I wanted this version of Liliana to exude. She’s not just standing there—she’s captured mid-movement, lifting one foot as if caught in a light, gentle dance. Her arms float slightly to her sides, fingers relaxed, adding to her overall poise and elegance.
Her milk chocolate-brown hair, which usually flows long and free, is styled into a sophisticated updo for this occasion. I gathered it into a voluminous, twisted bun with curls softly framing her face. Nestled within her hair is a lovely little white flower with a yellow centre—her signature hairpiece that I always include, no matter what she's wearing. She’s also wearing a dainty tiara atop her head, giving her a princess-like aura that suits both the dress and the whimsical tone of the setting. Her silver dangling earrings shimmer faintly, catching the sunlight as if they were twinkling stars on her ears.
Her face—oh, her lovely face—was drawn with the brightest joy I could express. Her eyes are closed with happiness, her cheeks flushed with a tender blush, and her soft pink lips curved into a wide, innocent smile. She looks like she’s about to giggle at something Arlon whispered from afar. Or maybe she’s lost in the feeling of a gentle breeze brushing through the garden as she twirls in her floral dress. The scene is like a painting come to life, with her beauty and the enchanting surroundings creating a sense of pure magic. It's as if time has stopped, capturing a moment of pure joy and innocence in the midst of everyday life.
I imagined that she’s performing a joyful dance in this artwork—one that she choreographed herself, perhaps to express her love and excitement about something meaningful, like her upcoming birthday or a surprise that Arlon made for her. It’s those kinds of stories I love imagining as I draw. Her outstretched posture captures the very essence of childhood bliss. She doesn’t even realise how graceful she is—she’s just enjoying the moment, the sun, and the flowers all around her.
The creative process wasn’t easy. Since I’m still in my baby steps in learning kidlit-style art, I had to take extra time studying the softness of children’s book illustrations—the roundness of features, the use of pastel lighting, the balance of bright yet calming colours. I practised shading in a way that gives everything a gentle glow, avoiding harsh edges while still creating depth. I also had to remind myself that it’s okay to make mistakes as long as I learn something each time. And truth be told, I still see a few things I want to improve next time—like the folds of the ribbon, or how the petals blend into the bodice—but that’s part of the journey.
This piece has also taught me something about beauty. While making this artwork, I realised that even young girls—fictional ones like Liliana—can radiate a pure kind of beauty that doesn’t need to be explained or justified. It’s not about glam or sparkle alone; it’s about the spirit they carry, the joy they share, and the love they reflect in their expressions and gestures. Creating this piece has shown me that true beauty is more than just physical appearance; it's about the essence of a person shining through.
Liliana, in her bouquet dress, is more than just an illustration. She is the embodiment of a kind, innocent love that is allowed to bloom. In her eyes—well, in her closed, happy eyes—you can almost hear her heart singing. You can feel the softness of the petals she wears. Of course, no artwork featuring Liliana would be complete without remembering her other half, Arlon Florian. Though he doesn’t appear in this piece, his presence is always felt whenever I draw Liliana. He is the one who understands her the most, who watches her spin and dance with admiration, who perhaps gave her the tiara she wears in this scene. I imagine Arlon was the first to see her in this dress, and his smile, though unseen, lives in her joy.
The story between Liliana and Arlon is still growing in my mind. Sometimes, it grows through whimsical sketches like this. Other times, through detailed scenes, slow-burn narratives, or even silly little drawings of them baking in the kitchen or playing music under a tree. But every time, their love comes through—and it never grows old. Their love story is like a blooming flower, unfolding with each passing moment, revealing new layers of depth and beauty. Liliana and Arlon's connection is a timeless tale that continues to inspire and captivate those who witness it.
Now, as I sit back and admire the finished artwork, I feel proud—not because it’s perfect, but because it came from the heart. It’s another small but meaningful step forward in my journey of visual storytelling. And even though I’m still learning and improving, this piece is a reminder that art doesn’t have to be flawless to be full of love. In the end, what I’ve created isn’t just a picture of a girl in a flower dress. It’s a celebration of creativity, romance, childhood wonder, and the innocent grace of young love that grows gently, like a blooming flower in the garden.
