Snowy Landscape
I’ve been re-reading “Color and Light” by James Gurney and using what I’ve learned in my practice paintings. This one is inspired by a small part in the book where he explains overcast lighting. Overcast or snowy days are hard for me to depict because of the lack of contrast. All of my shapes usually look so big and flat and I tried to avoid that by adding color variation where appropriate. I think the big difference was making the sky so slightly gray that the clean paper where the “snow” is pops when seen in person. I’ve also been brushing up on atmospheric perspective and I think I did a decent job with it here.
