Economics should include a unit or workshop on how to file taxes (Not just assuming all the students will be wage slaves. Teach students how to file them as a business owner too, because it's a whole thing.).
PE should include self-defense.
Getting rid of Home Ec was a travesty and one of the biggest mistakes in the history of public education. Bring that shit back.

i'm a supporter of core subjects (math, language arts, science, history/social studies), i think ppl put down science and ss a lot but w/o those two we'd literally have no idea how the world works/what issues we're facing. more emphasis on geography too, i'm tired of seeing all these americans not knowing where their state is on a map like COME ON YALL that's mad embarrassing.
sex ed 100%, and not just a quick unit in health class where all that is constantly repeated is abstinence abstinence abstinence. more emphasis on biology, periods, lgbtq+, and id say even societal issues dealing w/ sex (e.g. abortion controversy, period poverty, SA, etc so that people aren't fucking dumb).
home ec skills. the amount of people who can't boil water, thread a needle, or use a handheld vacuum is appalling. like how do u plan on living on ur own i don't understand. id include basic first aid too.
personal finance, economics, and government. everyone's gonna have to deal with money and politics in the future and if you can't budget or be politically literate and you screw urself over, that's on u. also how to do ur taxes n shit.
world cultures and religions, and not just for those in the western world, like people are so insanely discriminatory everywhere (yes, even non-white people! you should meet my parents). i think everyone should have exposure to a foreign language as well, preferably one that isn't similar to ur native language.
some of the things that everyone else is mentioning like public speaking, identifying bias, media literacy etc can be taught within other classes (idk abt y'all but i learned all 3 of the above in english class alone). this is where things like group projects, doing research for a paper, presenting in front of ur class etc come into play.

The multiple computer classes (Game Art Design, Design & Animation) that taught me how to use a computer better + how to use a USB stick & the importance of saving your digital art CONTSTANTLY when you’re working on it + back up your stuff!!!

We were retaught sex ed (that’s important because I didn’t actually learn anything in sex ed in middle school because I didn’t like being forced to learn about it, so I purposely didn’t listen to the gym teachers who clearly didn’t care about what they were teaching to us) & apparently we were the only school in the area that taught about contraceptives & birth pills… this was in 2019… Anywho, we were also taught the very important fact that children’s brains literally DO NOT FUNCTION the same as adult brains. So if you ever wonder “why do children/my child do __?” It’s probably because they might as well be a different species from adult humans in a sort of way; that’s how I sort of learned it in that class, lol.

So people that have religon fandoms can actual know the history of how their religon was made to tie it back down to the humanity and mistakes of it and see different religons view points including atheism religous art would also be good in the discussion. Ethics, anthropology, home economics. must have job interview/career planning/resume/writing workshops for work aged students.

Money math. I was taught it but the kids who come into the shop where I work apparently weren’t. I’m talking teens who have no idea how getting change works, what the values of different kinds of paper money are, really basic stuff.
It really freaks me out when I’m having to teach a 16 year old that a five dollar bill and a ten dollar bill together is fifteen dollars. And it’s not a disability/special needs thing, it’s that they primarily use credit cards and nobody thought they’d need to know about physical cash.

Home econ/Financing/taxes, finding a job, setting up appointments, basic mending( mechanics, sewing, electronics, etc), first aid, learning the entire Bee movie script by heart, self defense is good too

How to change a tire (vehicle stuff), cooking, and etc. What about a class learning about mental health and self care.

Basic cooking, like you don’t need to be a master chef or something but you should know how to make food for yourself
