Y'all probably noticed by now that I'm a big ol' D&D nerd, sooo... to all my fellow tabletop rpg enthusiasts:
In honor of the spooky season, what is one of the scariest scenarios from any of your home games?

Well not as scary while playing through it, but kinda scary if thought about too deeply:
Oneshot - kinda monster of the week monster hunting setting - we get invited to remove some creature that gives everyone nightmares from a house that had several tragedies happen in it and is not currently inhabited (owner wants to change that so here we are).
We roll up in there and basically find the whole place to be a cage with runic inscriptions to lock something in. Something that crawls up the walls and ceilings. Something big. Something strong enough to send one of us flying.
It scuttles back into the cellar after we manage to get some hits in that don’t seem to do as much as we’d like.
Magic circle, the big creature attacking us (hanging from the low cellar ceiling of course) and our group was not really equipped with a voice of reason character … so of course we break the circle without trying to read it, or thinking about the whole locking something in concept …
The moment the magic circle dims, the creature scedaddles, skittering outside through the first floor window, out into the woods.
Job done, yes. And we revived our pay and our characters didn’t worry about a thing.
But we effectively released a Nachtmahr (Nightmare maker, erodes people’s minds, here also bite-y scary edition) and basically doomed whichever place it decides to stay at to slowly die while suffering horrible nightmares every single night till their demise.
So yeah~
Job well done ^u^
