My excuse for the Baryon not being able to return to his previous form is that his mana capacity is lower in the new form so he can't use enough mana internally to fix it.
One I came up with partially just now is that spells don't work the same way with different mana orientation. Especially more refined techniques. Which is a good excuse for him to have to relearn things as well.
It's all over the place but hush.
I'm doing business shark first anyway.
