@ImYourToxicCat's post on Artfol

Ngl, Sometimes I think Disney just forgot how to write good female characters that aren’t wildly overpowered, too perfect, and are always stealing screen time away from other characters.

Btw anyone on Artfol that writes?

Honestly yeah, most of the time it’s because they start strong and there’s no real character development for them except hit smash and hit more stuff. I don’t watch a lot of Disney but it feels like a lot of writers write female characters as men with boobs not realizing that you can write masculine female characters without dismissing their femininity and that feminine characters can be strong . Most of the time it comes out of a place to want to write strong women (or just write a token female lol) then forgetting that to be strong you have to be flawed. I write sometimes!
Guys..this post wasn’t suppose to be taken this serious. I jaws just trying to start a discussion about writing and film. So please don’t take offense to anything written underneath this. 🤦🏾‍♀️
Im getting into writing, sort of. I'm working on a lab au fanfiction for a fandom I'm mainly in right now. It's gonna be my first ever fanfic and its going on wattpad once I finish it completely. Also you are COMPLETELY RIGHT. Disney has had that problem recently with their movies.
I wonder why they've been missing the mark. there's plenty of examples of great female characters
I used to write but I haven't been motivated anymore. And yes, Disney has been failing lately which is sad
I believe you're totally right - they've fallen in the Mary Sue pit😂 They should know better than that!😆 Yeah, I write novels myself😊 I like my female (and male) character balanced - like everyone got struggles, insecurities, history (maybe childhood trauma or something similar) etc.: Everything contributing to an interesting and natural feeling character whom you can relate to.
Yeah sometimes there female characters are hit or miss. I think a great way to balance any overpowered character is to give them emotional trauma and explore that in the story. It gives the character more balance and makes them feel more like a person. I don’t technically write but I do make up stories and characters.
