Okay let me start with the first thing I love about Spielberg films; when I watched this I felt like a little kid again. For 2hrs 15mins you truly believe in aliens again. For being made in 1977, the effects and lighting were amazing (probably better than some of the CGI you see today). The lighting and colour created a great atmosphere with an air of mystery and most importantly and emphasis on SPACE. The stars and the sky were absolutely beautiful in this. The direction really showed off all of the effects and made space seem so vast and mysterious. Moving on to the characters, they were so lovable. I think that they represented our belief of aliens and what we would have done if we had seen a UFO. Overall, I love this film, it's probably one of my favourite sci fi alien films, a sense of fear was perfectly created when the aliens were revealed and then it turned into wonder of what you were seeing in front of you. My favourite scene in the film was the "orchestra", where the scientists were communicating back and forth with the aliens. It was absolutely stunning and the score was perfect for it. So go watch this space masterpiece.
