Xiao Lanter Rite
Fanart I did for the genshin impact Lantern Rite contest. I tried lineless art andnro do a simple background... I suck at it
Does anyone have tips to be better at bg or how could I have improved this? The program I use is Ibis Paint X for tablet :3Apr 18, 2021

I loved the composition of this piece! One thing you could do to get a better visual on the background is make play more with colors, add more contrast to the parts, play with the ambient lightning... also a great thing I’ve learned recently is: make make it patiently! Be calm and try not to finish it in one day, sometimes you need a fresh look to see the rights and wrongs when you’re working on a big piece!

•Sure!! Also about the lantern I think it’s a mix of the two. You could have let xiao at the same place and put the lantern farther away, or maybe moved xiao I little bit, along with his eyes, so that it looks fluid when he’s watching the lantern! I think that’s how I would do it!

First of all it’s hard to know where xiao is looking! Is he watching the lantern or the sky? If its the lantern, then is gaze is a little of. If it’s the sky, then the lantern take to much place and people are more inclined I look at it first.
A second thing I would say is that the background looks a little flat. I know background are hard and it suck, but looking at references really help! Maybe try to make the things that are farther away more dark, or blurred!
