Ahahajahah my brain's fried, this was a concept from one of the oct prompts waaaay back then for "core".
I was making stuff for a story, yes the same story with the gatekeepers.
You can say that they'rebasically plants and their "core" is loosely based on chinese lantern plants (hozuki). The actual plant is said to "guide" the souls of the dead, I think it follows the theme quite well 
thats why, they're all Hozuki and Hozuki is used like a title.
