Tonight I realized something. I've been doing a lot of artwork for Redbubble recently, because I currently have no other job and it's hard to find any where I live currently.
I've been working on this one piece for like a week and haven't even finished the lineart, and I had originally just assumed that it was because my disliking of doing lineart was returning as it tends to do, and kept putting it off due to lack of motivation.
Tonight (or last night technically I suppose) I decided on a whim to do a little one page mini-comic of one of my characters based on my current version of her story. I figured I would just keep it sketchy and not worry to much about the line work or perfection, and that I should play around with coloring and textures a bit. The more I worked on it the more effort I was willing putring into the line art, still not fully caring if it looked perfect, but making it much less sketchy looking.
At the end of the piece I realized that it wasn't so much me not liking to draw lineart, and that it was more that I had no motivation to work on something that isn't intended for me and my own enjoyment. I really just needed to work on something for myself. And while I will still be making new stuff for my Redbubble, because I don't have much of a choice, I should take a little bit of time every now and then to work on something for myself to keep it balanced.
And if anyone has read to the end of this, especially may have similar feelings/experiences, make sure to make stuff for yourself too, and don't feel pressure to have it be totally "perfect" looking. I believe it may make you feel better as well.
I will post the comic later btw, but it's 6 a.m. now and I need to sleep.Oct 17, 2020
