It isn't easy being an ambassador for the Abyssal Ones.Their manner of speech is so far removed from the Reef-Dwellers, speaking in deep, bass tones most other ka'peu could never hope to replicate, and that is assuming one makes it to them. Navigation in the open water is difficult even when swimming in the light, but in the darkness? One's own gems could show some light in the murk below, but in open water, there is nothing to see except the sun-bleached debris covering the darkness like snow on its way to the floor.
That, though, has never been an issue for Anga. She has rarely had a problem visiting her abyssal cousins; an innate talent, one may call it, to match her magical prowess and "strange" ability to hum those abyssal tones.
No, the true danger lies in the Corrupt that linger in the deep. Most were Reef-Dwellers before the Corruption set in, and their bodies, even Corrupted, are not made for deeper waters. Instead, many lurk in the dim barrier between light and dark, where many Reef-Dwellers cannot see well and thus are easy prey.
Anga never was easy prey, not to those Corrupt. She can see in the dim zone of water. Only once the sun no longer shines does fear hit her on her trips to the abyss. Their Corrupt can see where she cannot, and move faster under the crushing conditions than she could ever hope.
Her one saving grace is magic, but much of her energy goes to strengthening her body against the crushing weight of water above.
Defenseless.
Yes, that would be what she calls it, as she drifts carefully through the blackness toward the Abyssal Ones' settlement, and what she calls it when she drifts upward back home. Moving her body as much as she does to swim would alert Corrupt right away, so she always remains still as she floats through the cloudy water on her trips.
She never lets her guard down, not until she is over the shelf and into the coral of home. Too many ambassadors fall prey to Corrupt or sharks. Anga knows to be careful, to be patient, and... truthfully, she doesn't mind the silence of the deep or how her thoughts roam while she floats without time to and from the abyss.
