How do yall actually come up with cohesive lore for your ocs?
I’m asking this so seriously LMAOO. I always have so many thoughts and it’s hard to keep them all straight even after writing it down and such…. AughhhSep 29, 2023

I start with a skeleton of like every key event from beginning to end and then I go in and fill it out with relevant smaller details, scenarios, stories, etc but they all have to tie to either the makeup of the character's personality or the overarching ideas I have for them

•I try to keep a worldbuilding bible written down and updated (to varying degrees of success lol). It’s basically a personal wiki to keep notes on characters and setting.
All my OCs exist in the same world, so I have a big general timeline in there to keep straight who shows up when.
I also have sections for each country to keep notes on things like major/historic events, culture, and language/terms.
I even keep a list of “facts I commonly screw up” cuz my memory for exact details is garbage haha

•i do a lot of world building. i think it's important to understand the world that the characters exist in before trying to create lore for specific characters that would make sense together.
it also helps if you have a clear story you want to tell. if you don't rly have a story to tell and just want to make bg for a character, i personally find that more difficult. so idk how ppl do that. (・ัω・ั)

•Not too sure, but it is a saying that good written characters have inspiration from the authors life, so maybe look into yourself and find something you can work with

I solidified a lot of lore by basically interviewing myself. By pretending as convincingly as possible to be an outsider trying to make sense of my ideas, it helped me organize them in a way that made more sense.
I will say that my experience with debate and drama classes probably make this easier for me than others; putting myself into other people's perspectives comes easy to me. Where many ppl I know are like "how the heck would you even begin to know what kinds of questions an unknowing party would ask??" which is something I don't understand well enough about myself to explain unfortunately

•I wish I could tell you
I mean my friends always tell me my lore is creative and good so
Also maybe its because I share my ideas and thoughts with my friends and while I do that I always get more ideas and then when I actually write down the lore properly I pick and choose the ideas I had?? And try to make a timeline???
Also I found that answering silly questions in character can help getting to know your character better. Sometimes it helps with lore but its more for personality

like i could talk about them all day but the chance of me contradicting myself while talking about them is 100%
