Thinking about giving my “golden retriever”personality type character Will (big blonde dumb guy) a pet golden retriever. I think him having an acutal dog that is like his personality is good ike its an extension of him and how pets and owners can look alike. If you wanted to do a contrast I think something like an Australian Shepard would be good they are chaotic a bit obnoxious and smart.

•Just curious (and this is not criticism, because I have complete faith in your ability to create cool and interesting characters) why a big dumb guy character was inspired by one of the smartest dog breeds on the planet. As far as a cool companion that may have a personality you could have some fun with... My step-sister and brother-in-law had a Collie/chow mix, and if you know those breeds, it turned out as bizarre as it sounds. While Buster was a good boy, very smart, and a heck of a watchdog, he didn't know if he was Lassie or Cujo and could go from one to the other and back at the snap of the fingers 
. I'll probably create an OC based on him at some point, but you could probably have some fun exploring mixes of breeds that probably shouldn't mix
