My mom and brother sometimes mess around with digital art on our iPad 5th generation. It still gets updates and can still play the original Angry Birds games!

•I have an iPad Pro (2018 11 inch model), which I bought from Mac of All Trades for around $600 (you can probably get it for cheaper now though), and an Apple Pencil (2nd gen) is around $100 or so, though like other comments have said, get it secondhand so it’s cheaper. One accessory that’s helpful is the Sketchboard Pro, which is a easel/case that gives your arm more space to draw (it’s around $130). So my biggest advice would be to not buy everything at once, take your time

I got the iPad 2018 (gen 6) secondhand for about 320 euros, but that was two years ago so you can probably get it for less now. Also, pro tip: just buy a pencil secondhand as it is no different from a brand new one.

•I have the most recent 12.9" iPad pro. Can't remember what gen it is, but it's the one with the m1 processor. I have the smallest capacity size, so it's £1,000 new.
I basically wanted the beefiest device to have the most layers in procreate, lol. The cheaper or older the iPad, the fewer layers you get to use.
I started with a first gen 11" pro though, but found sometimes that smaller size made it hard to do long sweeping lines.
Personally, I only recommend the devices that are apple pencil 2 compatible. The pencil charges via magnets on the side of the device, rather than via a lightning cable, and the ipads usually use usb-c to charge instead of lighting. Lightning needs to die as a connection, I hate it. But it basically just has an inbuilt place to hold the pen, keep it charged, and you don't need to awkwardly stick it into the charging port.
Consider second hand though. You can get a barely used device for a lot cheaper, especially a pro.

•I use the iPad Pro 12,9” with 256GB. I payed back in 2020 around 1100€.
I choosed the 12,9” because I used a A4 Wacom and wanted nearly the same drawing space. I’m still pretty happy with it. It doesn’t crashed since I have it and it’s really fast in switching programs etc.

I still have my iPad mini gen 4 from like 2018 when I got it for Christmas 
It works fine but I use it daily so it’s absolutely on its last leg. Also apple just decided no Apple Pencil for gen 4 minis & below so there’s that.

I have the IPad Air 3 as for price I’m not so sure since it was a gift :/ but it was around a year after they had released it and the person who bought it for me got it during the summer with sales and managed to get AirPods and a pencil as well so I hope that helps ^^
