Some more history as an addendum to the Banana Fish piece from earlier:
PULP was a manga magazine/label published by Viz Media, and it ran from 1997 to 2002. Marketed as "Manga for Grownups", it featured more mature series as opposed to what you would see in an issue of English Shonen Jump back then.
Banana Fish, despite being a shojo manga, was part of the magazine's lineup full of seinen manga and was marketed as such for much of the magazine's lifespan. Although when the manga got the (flipped) tankobon treatment under the label, it was correctly called a shojo manga on the back of the books.
Other series that were a part of the magazine included Uzumaki, Tekkon Kinkreet, Phoenix, and more.Dec 29, 2020
