Ariakey Left / Right ChallengeI have been wanting an excuse to keep strengthening my left hand for art and this challenge was the perfect one. I thought a cool idea for it was to draw two people interacting/embracing but each one is drawn 100% with only one of my hands. Left woman is only left hand, and right man is only right hand (line where they meet was left hand as I drew it while finishing the woman, and the mans hand on the small of her back was drawn by right hand since it’s part of that character). They’re not OCs but just a stylized interpretation based off a stock photo I referenced.
I thought the left hand would be a lot worse/wiggly/lighter but I’m actually impressed with myself for the stability and pen pressure I was able to get. But you can really see the difference in the shading as the action was hard on my left and it was also tiring out by then. Having undo, eraser, and other digital benefits helped, which I only did with my left hand as well on the left figure. I do practice art with my left (non-dominant) hand from time to time and use my left hand a lot for work (two handed type of labor). This challenge made me realize I never truly ‘finish’ anything with my left hand more than a loose sketch or bit of writing so even tho this is also a sketch I like that I cleaned it up and darkened the lines a little too. I definitely felt the muscles in my left hand had been worked out some at the end lol.Feb 4, 2025
