Ariadne’s father, the late Emperor Atticus Fenway III, assassinated a year prior to the events that take place in the story.He recognized that the way the Fenway Dynasty had been running the Empire was corrupt and was trying to do what he could to fix it before he was killed. No one knows for sure who the people responsible for the murder were: those on the poorer end of the social spectrum who were extremely upset with how slow-moving Atticus III’s reforms were, or those on the wealthier side who didn’t want to lose their power
