Hello~ You can call me Rayla! Welcome to my page!! I'm probably gonna get a PC soon and since I want to play games, I've got a quick question. What exactly is a controller for PCs? Are they special, or is it just like an Xbox (or whatever) one?

U can use an xbox or ps4 controller although more games support xbox. To use a ps4 controller for games that only support xbox ones use a software called DS4windows. I personally use a ps4 controller since I grew up with a playstation.

β’Pretty much any console controller works on pc these days :). I personally use an Xbox controller for most games, just because they're both Microsoft and so there's Maximum Compatibility - it's basically plug in and go. But you can get a Dualsense if you like the feel of the PlayStation ones more. I believe the switch pro controller also works, but I've never tried to connect mine to a pc.
I think a lot of other companies do them too, but quality can vary. There's some real... Nasty feeling ones still. So I stick with the main console ones.
