Does anyone have tips for making photographs of traditional art look better when using a phone?
I know good lighting is a big part of successful photography, but I always seem to have trouble with framing my traditional drawings so that they look good.Apr 18, 2021

Outside on a sunny day, artwork on the ground, camera directly above. U can use sheets of colored paper to lay the artwork on so that u dont photograph the ground in it. Thats how i take rly nice pics w my shitty quality phone camera

Make sure you’re photographing in a place with plenty of light! By a window or even outside. Also definitely incorporate some art principles like composition in your photographs. The documentation is an art in itself!

I use an app called Snapseed which I think it's great in helping edit the picture. I hope it helps you.

You can frame your drawing with pieces of colourful paper/card stock. Adding one or 2 art supplies laying in the corner help too! Neutral book covers, pencil cases or flat notebooks work too. Using very few objects is usually works the best

when i did traditional art i’d use an app called Snapseed to edit it. you use a tool called ‘selection’ and increase the brightness (etc.) on the background to make it completely white. you can also erase blemishes like smudges or anything like that if you wish using the same app. i believe it works best with black and white images but i’m unsure how it holds up when colour is involved. i hope this helps!

If you have any sort of tripod, that might help
I normally place my phone somewhere and then move the drawing around till it's properly framed ^^ and then editing it of course

So I have two large foam boards (you can get them from the dollar store)! One is white and one is black. When I need pictures of traditional art, I’ll take the boards outside and tape/pin the piece to the board I prefer and lean the board against a sturdy surface. This prevents shadows and the lighting looks really nice! I then crop the picture usually with the basic editing software on the iPhone/iPad!

•I’d probably edit it with sth like Lightroom. A camera never perfectly captures the colors or contrasts right so it’s nice to adjust the photo to sth that looks more like in realize.

•Personnaly, i always use daylight to take pictures of my drawings, it's the best light ever, and i also use the grid on the photo app so my drawing is right in the middle and the picture look better :) (and never use flash or it will look very bad) [sorry for my english lol]
