So I was organizing my liked artwork into collections and I realized that there's several I'm considering making public, although should I / do I need to ask the artists permission before making them public?
I'm usually shy about asking permission, but since the collection links to the original artworks I'm not sure if this is a situation where I ask for permission or just not worry and put it up. (I understand the issue with using uncredited artwork, but when it comes to sharing artwork that links back to the original artists I always feel more murky and am unsure.)
(I had this issue with sharing posts to my Instagram story as well, but wasn't sure if it would be normal / expected to DM somebody asking if they minded if I shared a thing. -w-)Nov 26, 2022

On artfol and instagram you wouldn't need an artist's permission to share something in a collection or in your story (as long as you use the share button and dont post a screenshot instead, oviously), really, it's a feature that only gives them more exposure and all likes and comments go to them, not you. If anyone has somethinh against their art being shared that would be really weird? On instagram they should make a private account then anf on artfol, well, resharing posts and making collections is a core part of the app so ot wouldn't really make sense to be here

•I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone else asking for permission to save their posts before on here! It doesn’t give them a notification if you saved their post, just like on Instagram.
The posts do just link right back to the original poster, so it should be fine! I’ve never actually seen anyone on here have an issue with it before!
Collections are basically a place where you keep a bunch of links, it’s not comparable to reposts at all because of it, but you’re technically not resharing the art either? I think it’s supposed to be like Pinterest but all users’ art must be their own OR they must’ve gotten permission from the OG artist to repost it, if I’m remembering Artfol’s TOS correctly!
