Got mixed feelings about this one lol
Was practicing and trying out a few different things with this one, so I'm pretty happy with it anyways So in my world most humans have some magic in them and a few are more likely to develop powers, but just because you have this magic doesn't mean you'll develop anything, something will only show up if you're in a situation that triggers something, usually between the ages of 16-20. Powers develop in situations where the host of the magic is in danger and often had no other way to protect themselves and so powers tend to be themed around what had happened to trigger the abilities, so like Red's mom developed her fire control abilities in her teens because she had been trapped in a forest fire and the powers triggered to protect her. Once you develop a kind that's the one you'll have for the rest of your life.
Red's powers were triggered artificially by her bio dad with some nasty experimenting so they are a little weird and unusual because of it. She was only 14 and so the magic is a bit more intense than normal and her abilities don't really have anything to do with what triggered it, her necromancy instead forming because of her obsession and knowledge of death and dead things and her deep desire to talk to her brother who had died a few years before. There were a lot of complications with adapting to her abilities because of how they were triggered, they were intense and very confusing to Red, who before this actually had no idea this kind of thing was even possible until it happened to her. Later on she became very good with her powers and they became just another part of her, even a tool when she was blinded, but it was a difficult thing at first.

oooh I love the way powers appear in your setting!! It lets in so much speculation for how other characters develop powers argh that's so fun!!
