Someone You Can Build a Nest In (ARC)
Author: John Wiswell
Rating: 5/5
Synopsis: When shapeshifting monster Shesheshen is chased off a cliff by monster hunters, she is rescued by Homily, a woman who has mistaken her for a fellow human. As the two grow closer, Homily reveals that she and her family were in town to kill a monster who has placed a curse on them..
The moment I read the synopsis I knew I HAD to read it. And it completely met my expectations!!
What I loved:
- wholesome sapphic monster romance?? (no smut:D)
- both the mc and li are ace!!!!
- fat love interest!!
- pov from the monster, who exists as an amorphous lump of flesh (she shapeshifts by consuming things to be used as body parts, eg a bear trap for a mouth, a chain for a spine, bones from people she's eaten)
- the themes of recovering from abuse and choosing to treat others with love and kindness and to not continue the cycle of abuse
- Shesheshen is so funny in the way that she doesn't know a lot about humans so she says weird stuff a lot
- eg: Homily: oh no was that rude of me??
Shesheshen: thinks humans like to agree with each other yes, very rude!
Homily:
- the part when Shesheshen hugs Homily and subtly makes her arms longer so they can wrap all the way around her

- refers to nonbinary people as enby (like saying man or woman), which I've never seen in any book before (usually they just say 'person' and use they/them pronouns) and explicitly saying enby is really cool imo
TLDR; This book was so silly yet heartfelt and meaningful and I loved it so much!!!! It comes out on April 2nd so please please read it then!!!

I LOVE SHAPESHIFTERS??? AND a fat love interest and breaking cycles of abuse???? This book sounds awesome! Also I love books that don't shy away from making a monster monsterish. Like even slightly biblically accurate angel paranormal romances don't exist
