Being sassy rude online over inherent traits online always came off to me as a sort of “it wins the argument so whatever” way of making a moralizing argument that flips social dynamics (ie: imagine not being [underprivileged identity] that must be so embarrassing). I understand it’s just a template for a joke, but my brain naturally tries to figure out the reason for saying any given thing, so i associate it with this.
That said, I had a brain implosion when I saw someone use this template to say something similar to “omg imagine being right handed”.
I don’t need to imagine.
Close to 80% of the population doesn’t need to imagine.
And like.
Assuming this is some kind of argumentative jab, are you saying left handed people are underprivileged…?
Like maybe in the fucking Middle Ages??? I’ve heard from my 60 year old elementary school teachers that they used to force left handed people to use their right, but like… its 2023, seriously…? If you asked me what hand my parents write with, I’d genuinely have to think about it…
Sorry for overthinking jokes and attempting to explain my thought process, my brain is a mess… I obsess over tone, seriously…Sep 6, 2023

nah you right tho. i feel like there's this "slice and dice" approach to people online and trying to make every inherent trait relevant to being an in-group or an "othered" group, and it's lowkey exhausting imo.
