I never intend to ever go on twitter due to some stories from friends that they accidentally stumble across p*rn while just scrolling for memes or whatever and I'm scared it'll be that way for twitter alternatives, so I feel hesitant to look into bluesky, but if anyone can share their experiences that'd be appreciated :')

So I'm gonna be real with you and say that within 5 minutes of joining bluesky I saw unfiltered cartoon naughty bits. HOWEVER. Once I followed 10 people and got my Following feed it has ONLY been relevant stuff. Haven't seen anything weird since. So, while unfortunate that it considers this stuff a fine thing to randomly suggest, it's easy to let it know you don't want to see that.
Unlike twitter's algorithm, Bsky does seem to actually listen when you hide posts, and also unlike twitter it is very clear about what hiding does. It not only tweaks your Discover algorithm, it also says it will NEVER show that particular post to you again. You can also report it for not being properly filtered i believe, just like here.
Hiding a post on twitter does absolutely nothing. It will pop up again 20 minutes later after a refresh
overall I don't think there is anywhere online where you are completely safe from the horndogs. But bsky does actually seem to care if people are seeing what they want to see, where twitter actively tries to show you things you don't want to see at this point.
