Also I didn't know that Florida and California were two different states, I didn't think it was a state with two names, or that one of the names was wrong, they just inhabited the same space in my brain

It was a really long time ago so I can't remember much but while I would be doing like weird little reading tests I couldnt say island or isle correctly. I knew how to say it in my but the only thing I could read aloud was "is-land" and "is-ul" even when they would say the word out loud and tell me to repeat.
