Inari

Inari Ōkami, the Japanese god of foxes, fertility, rice, tea and sake, of agriculture, and prosperity. She's one of the principal Shinto gods and the patron of swordsmiths and merchants. She is speculated to have many forms and origins. A venerated goddess wildly regarded by her people, but as a the leader of foxes, she can't not have a mischievous streak too, right?

In terms of general lore, the world is a bit supernatural (obviously, yokai are involved) and as the last name Kobe suggests, this family acts as the door between mortal and supernatural worlds. Mediators, if you will. Granted such a position through the goddess Inari, they form a pact with her selected fox spirit to protect both worlds from bad apples. The defeated monsters also reappear in the form of tattoos if the fighter chooses to seal them over destroying their soul. Fragmented souls reform in patterns while intact souls remain in their original creature shape.
