In your hand drawn, traditional style, I wouldn’t recommend taking more than an hour per figure. If you are. Don’t be precious with it and sink a day into the details, they’ll come faster with time.
As for those really important projects. I don’t know, how long is a piece of string? Spend as long as you want, but I wouldn’t recommend you restrict yourself to strictly those day-long drawings
