Fontaine’s Second Hug

After the Night of Tolling’s riot was over, Fontaine sat at his shrine and reached out to Veranth Ibys.

The kelp grew and wrapped around him, holding him in place and creeping under his chassis. It was a description that elicited a lot of discomfort from the table, but for Fontaine, it was a genuinely comforting embrace as she spoke to him.

As a parasitic catfish, he grew up sheltering in the mouth of a mother cichlid, hoping she wouldn’t realise he had infiltrated her brood. Protection has always come hand in hand with threat; in his experience, the very maw of danger is the safest place to be. And Veranth Ibys already KNOWS he’s a parasite, so surely he has nothing left to fear.

Anyway, he’s a very relatable character in some ways, but this is maybe his least relatable trait. If a bit of seaweed even touches my ankle I’m cutting my entire leg off like it’s a saw trap. Absolutely vile.

Fontaine (Giltgreen) is a curious catfish granted sentience and power by the goddess of the sea. He uses her magic to pilot an automaton and literally catfish those around him, and hopes to someday become powerful enough to have earned her devotion in return.
