I’ve created another digital artwork again—and this time, it’s one of my proudest pieces featuring my beloved original characters, Liliana and Arlon. They’re not just characters to me; they’re mascots of my vision of ideal romantic love. These two represent everything beautiful and timeless about affection, trust, and pure connection. Whenever I illustrate them, it’s like I’m weaving a love story that can stand the test of time. This particular artwork, however, has a special festive twist: it’s a Christmas greeting card. The card encapsulates the season of joy, warmth, and cheer, featuring Liliana and Arlon as children, dressed perfectly for the occasion. I wanted to capture both the innocence of their youth and the timeless charm they carry as characters.The inspiration for this artwork came from imagining a Christmas party they attended. I envisioned them in a setting full of festive decorations—a warm, glowing room illuminated by fairy lights, a decorated Christmas tree gleaming in the corner, and the faint smell of freshly baked cookies in the air. But the focus, of course, was on the two of them, shining as the heart of this card. Their youthful, joyful appearances and playful smiles make the image look alive like it could be a memory taken straight from a magical Christmas Eve. The setting adds richness to the story I wanted to tell: a moment of pure joy between two close friends, celebrating Christmas together.
Let’s start with Liliana—as always, she shines in this piece, her beauty and charm undeniable even as a child. She wears a red Christmas minidress, fluffy at the hem and neckline, adding a cosy winter touch. The dress hugs her frame but flares out with playful volume, perfectly suited to her bright and bubbly personality. The deep red of her outfit contrasts beautifully with her fair skin, and the white fur trims make her look festive and snug. Around her waist is a brown leather belt with a golden buckle, cinching the dress perfectly to give it shape. Her long, wavy chocolate-brown hair cascades down her back like a river of silk, voluminous and perfectly styled. It’s parted in the middle, with gentle curls framing her face, and I added a delicate white flower tucked behind her ear to give her a touch of elegance. Her hair is so central to her charm; I always feel like it adds to her softness and warmth.
Liliana’s face is where the magic comes alive. Her large, dazzling blue eyes practically sparkle, like twin pools reflecting the winter sky. I worked hard to make her eyes a focal point, giving them a twinkle of curiosity and happiness. Around her eyes, I added hints of pink blush and soft lashes that enhance her youthful radiance. Her rosy cheeks make her look cheerful and full of life, as if she’s just come in from the chilly outdoors. Finally, she wears dangling silver earrings that catch the light—a little touch of holiday sparkle to complete her festive look.
Then there’s Arlon—standing close to Liliana, his presence calm, steadfast, and endearing. His outfit is a green fluffy ensemble inspired by the iconic Ghost of Christmas Present. The outfit is soft and textured, with a coat trimmed in white fur that drapes over him comfortably. The deep forest green colour contrasts beautifully with Liliana’s red dress, creating a harmonious balance that makes the artwork feel cohesive and visually appealing. The coat fits him snugly, with the sleeves and collar puffing out slightly, adding to the festive feel. Like Liliana’s dress, it has a belt—this time a matching brown leather one with a gold buckle—to tie his look together. The outfit makes him look both regal and adorable, capturing his gentle yet composed personality.
Arlon’s hair is another highlight of this piece. His dark, tousled locks frame his face naturally, slightly messy but charming in a way that suits his youthful, boyish energy. I always keep Arlon’s hair soft and textured, like you could reach out and ruffle it playfully. His brown eyes are warm and kind, shining with a quiet sense of wonder. Compared to Liliana’s bold, sparkling gaze, Arlon’s expression is subtler—a small, knowing smile paired with a calm, thoughtful look in his eyes. It’s a pose that speaks of pure friendship and closeness as if there’s no one else in the world they’d rather share this moment with. Arlon, on the other hand, stands slightly reserved but still leans into her affection, his expression soft and appreciative. It’s such a small detail, but the way they look at each other—or in this case, the viewer—conveys their bond beautifully.
