Amur leopard
This is an old grumpy mama at our zoo that recently passed away due to health issues related to old age <3Amur leopards are the northern subspecies of leopards, and are one of the most endangered cats out there! There are about 100 individuals in the wild currently, which is a lot compared to 15 years ago (only ~40 individuals!
). They are threatened by the usual, aka habitat loss and poaching. Apparently they have the most beautiful fur out of all leopards, which definitely doesn’t help their case. A rewilding program is currently starting to strenghten the wild population, but it is a long and difficult operation that will still take a while. Nonetheless I can’t wait how it will go!Apr 15, 2021
