Which art programs became some of your favorites straight away and why?
To me, it recently happened to be FireAlpaca! I remember looking for a program that had a chill interface similar to MS Paint, fun brushes like IbisPaint and Krita and a lightweight performance for my dear laptop to handle well.
This one checked all the boxes for me lol- it’s like a fusion of my fave bits in every program I use!

Procreate tbh, but for some reason I also like using Nebo which is just a note-taking iPad app

Clip studio paint was an immediate perfect match for me, though with the kinda hot water they’ve put themselves in I’m worried how much longer it’ll last

•My fairly elderly laptop hanging for dear life can handle Krita. It's free and lightweight that's why I use it. The brushes it comes with are also pretty decent if you know what your doing.

when i used to look around for free computer drawing apps fire alpaca fs. its the one i always recommend. but I like procreate lol, it has a lot of the drawing related functions psd has. (though i hate the shape tool) i only wish it had a pen tool lol

•Aseprite. I wish I had the motivation to dive into the possibilities. I even bought plugins for it. Its basically the best thing to work with of you pixel. I love the software so much.

•I like Adobe Fresco cause it's free and you can stream directly from the app so it's easy to do long and short videos

Ig for me would be Krita since it's free n' shit, it's the first program i've used and it's not that bad

•Clip Studio was ofc the first, lol. I never really got into or understood Paint Tool SAI way back when and was still using photoshop to do flat colors, since I never really got a hang of digital painting on it. A friend introduced me to Clip and I was immediately astounded by how much easier the selection tools were. I eventually got a hang of the tools and brushes on Clip much better, and soon got into digital painting as well.
Next came ibispaintx when I got a new phone and found that it came with a stylus. I tried out apps like Medibang for a while but instantly clicked with Ibis the most. I got to experiment with different brushes for lining a lot on it, and it was also very easy to save the necessary files to transfer to my computer. I learned even more about clipping masks and selection tools there, and because it's so portable I often be sketching when I go out now. It's very handy to have!
Lastly, Rebelle. I find myself really missing doing traditional art despite the conveniences of digital. So when I found the app that emulates traditional to a T, I was blown away and bewitched by how much it could do, and how accurately it does it. It's so accurate that it even emulates the pain of traditional media, lol but I also love that about it! Working with Rebelle has made me very nostalgic and puts me in a good mood while tinkering with its tools, it really reminds me of the times I had fun making art as just art. (It's also on super sale rn for like $20!)

•Krita. I needed a replacement lining program as the crack I had of paint tool sai didn't work on windows 10. Downloaded it and pretty much instantly got along with it as a lineart program. Eventually I realised it felt Right to use for the rest of my workflow too and just... Cut Photoshop out of my life entirely.
