Wash practices

I used a flat size 40 brush to wash with water before paint and it’s incredible. The water didn’t pull like it does with the round brush and spread more evenly and dried evenly because it wasn’t even layer of water. Painting with that was no good. Bigger round brush (12) prevents the lines like my earlier work ( size 6,10 brush)

The Bee elite watercolor paper is so much nicer and my bleeding practice is more satisfying. Not quite there yet, but I see progress.

The canson paper with two boxes is the worst of my attempts. I was gifted many rolls of washi tape so I can practice more. Plan to do more with Color blending and an even wash down the page

1) gradient with a single color
2) gradient mixed two colors
3 gradient mixed two colors
4) double paper gradient single color
5) canson paper gradient single color

All Kuretake Gamba

Notes on 1) first three at a 70° angle on a easel. When the paint is too thick there’s line. When it’s too watery, there’s no gradient. Careful about too much water on the brush versus on the paper. Wetting the paper two times lightly is better than one time with a lot. Yellow ochre and Cadmium orange is strangely similar. There’s a handful of squares that turned out perfectly.
