For people whose native language doesn't have gendered pronouns, does english pronouns feel strange when it's used for you?Jul 25, 2024

My native language only has ő(singular they) and ők(multi they)
Getting used to the he she they during english was okay.
That was pretty much my first time feeling uncomfortable with my assigned gender. They/Them just felt right. But the gendered ones felt weird in a way. Like... Limiting? Categorizing? Idk! I just didn't like it. While nowadays I'm perfectly fine with he/him, back then I didn't like it either since I wasn't aware of the nonbinary option. I didn't like being either, even though I was 100% aware that I was a very mask child and teen

But nowadays I use both he and they cuz they feel better mixed together. It's easier to explain where I am
Not really, I learned English and my native language at the same time so.. It feels normal that I'd never even thought about it
not really, it's probably because I'm already so used to it. i think English has a bigger problem of their spelling not matching with their pronunciation....
not at all
Spanish is the total opposite everything is gendered male or female (singular and plural), even objects.

So trust me using “they” is the least of my problems, good luck trying to use gender neutral pronouns in Spanish. It exists, but sounds like you’re butchering in cold blood the language itself so definitely not used to it 🤣
I learned english when i was very young so it doesnt feel too weird but i still found myself thinking having he, she, it Pronouns is a bit unnecessary when other things in the same language is not gendered. Like why not just use one Pronoun for all? Maybe thats why i keep using they as a default without even realising..
@Myri_ @braiseee uhh sorry guys, I didn't know about this gendered language language thing ;w; I wasn't saying that tho, I was talking about the she/her and he/him pronouns cuz we don't have anything like that in my language
English isnt a gendered language.
My first language is a romance one, reading that English is considered a gendered language is so funny to me
A little bit yeah😭😭😭
