The Board
Concept sketches of more of the Board: a shady organisation founded by the King, a retired chess grandmaster with a sharp strategic mind and a lot of connections.At the bottom tier of this mercenary pyramid scheme are the Pawns, entry-level foot soldiers who were offered protection, rewards and the promise of promotion in return for their services - and a generous payout to a chosen beneficiary if they die on the job.
The Knights are vehicles experts and human battering rams, often sent in first to break down enemy defences.
And the Queen is the most formidable field agent of the board, a grizzled, hyper-efficient spy and fighter with more experience in the Board than anyone other than the King himself.
Not pictured yet are the Bishops, who handle recruitment and bureaucracy, using their day jobs in influential positions to pull strings from afar for the Board.Jan 21, 2022
