Family Roots
Relearning/reclaiming/remembering recent ancestry. Personal piece, how sometimes it feels like I'm creating a beautiful stained glass to cherish recent ancestors who went through similar trauma just by their cultures Existing. And by reclaiming from both sides slowly and carefully, the more I can picture them. But there's things I can't have access to or will never experience (hence broken or missing glass) but there's still plenty of peices I can put together overtime..
My mother's side is the Native woman's side so I tried to mix in a kokum scarf (Cree) with a Blackfeet dress. I also have an important textile design on her quillwork that can be found on dancers from Leon Mexico since that represents my maternal grandpa. My father's side is an Ashkenazi Jewish woman with a shawl that's of an Irish tartan for my paternal grandpa.

I will also note that since I'm reconnecting /will convert to Judaism; I'll never support Israel nor Zionism, Palestine has my full support always and my Jewish art is in the perspective of being a Native - Jewish person, so there's only so much of white Ashkenazi culture I can relate to.Jul 4, 2021
