I love designing characters and experimenting with my art!Hello again! Controversial art topic incoming. What do you think about the adopt community, specifically how people tell the buyers of their adopts that if they don't want the adopt anymore, they HAVE to give it back to the original artist..? I find this rule a bit silly? I payed for a CHARACTER, i should be able to use it freely.. which includes how i trade it? (species ocs are different) a while ago i had an artist tell me i couldn't trade away their adopt, and it put me off a bit. So i'm just curious. (No hate to anyone that has this rule! i dont have much experience with the recent adopt market so i've never seen such a term, wow! i dont think thats fair at all since you paid for it unless theyre willing to refund you as well.

I feel like it depends on the situation. I know some people ask for the character back if you don’t use it just because they have other people who would be interested in purchasing it from them.
In other cases, I would agree that it’s ridiculous to claim ownership of a design you just sold, especially for high priced OCs.
On the other hand, if they weren’t sold for money, but for art for example, I could understand wanting to claim the character back.

•I dont really have an opinion about it, its just alright for me, and i see myself joining the adopt community in the future...But yeah, ive seen tons of dumb rules..When you sell a character its not really your character anymore, dont treat it like it is is all i can really say

Give credit if people ask for the designer or you post the original image
Else, do whatever the hell you want, you bought it for goodness sake

I don't buy adopts from people with strict TOS like that. If you want control over a design, don't sell it. It all feels a bit manipulative.
And honestly, most of those people don't even keep track of their adopts anyway. Even if you do break an obscure rule of theirs years down the line, they won't notice unless they're stalking you.

•I agree with that. It’s not like you can do that with a product from a store, so why should you be able to take back an adopt you sold?
