Consider the environment where they live, what materials are readily available to them? Did they base their history on agriculture? Then maybe cotton or linen is widely available. What if they’re more hunters? They will likely use leathers more. Or if they’re a society that thrives on trade, maybe they’ll have fabrics of different colors from regions that trade exotic goods, and they have a certain fabric that only the wealthy can buy. Textile history is fun you should look into it!

Looking at temperature, humidity and general weather conditions in the region that culture is existing in. Also thinking about why they would wear certain things certain ways. Also helps with colors. As a basic thought: would they want to stand out or keep hidden?
Beliefs and similar might also influence quite a lot.

Def expand your visual library by looking at different countries traditional clothes. Also maybe think of shapes/patterns u want to appear on the clothing most often as well as colours. You can watch like modeling/designer clothes videos on youtube to get inspo

Taking inspiration from real history is good. Also maybe consider what resources are available in the location, as in, what the clothes would be made of. Maybe the country has a ton of gold and everyone wears lots of gold jewelry, or they don’t know how to make fabric yet so their clothes are made of fur or leaves or whatever.
