Jack (SHELTER)
the obligatory tumblrsexcman character (it is just an evil man in a suit) but it was unintenional cus i was not planning for him to look that way.Anyways meet Jack one of the residents in the story. He used to be one of my fave characters to write until my focus directed towards mama. They're both rather similar in terms of their role in the story except that Jack is just a little more... chaotic? Lemme elaborate on that as well as yap about the thought process behind his design
SO- much like Mama he also served as a "safe place" for Rene. But quite unlike Mama who remained in that constant hot and cold switching, Jack's relationship with Rene is the type that started out so well, then drastically changed out of nowhere. He was the first person to greet Rene when they ended up in the mansion, he was the only person who consistently helped Rene, but that sorta changed as the days go by in the mansion. He became more violent and irritable, neglectful, and cold to Rene, and this sudden change of course confuses the kid a lot (to the same level as what Mama does)
Outside of tormenting Rene, Jack's role in the mansion is being an instigator of sorts. He's the reason why the Residents always try to kill each other cus he likes to whisper into their ears and further fan the flames of their hatred. He does this cus it keeps him tethered to reality cus guess what,,, Jack is not supposed to exist in the mansion. Let's just say he was in Rene's shoes once, but he was unable to escape, and if he wants to stay, well he has to "grow up".
Onto his design, I gave him a suit cus I wanted him to have this clean look? like he's from high society or whatever, and he's the kind of man you'd want to be, very epitome of like the fancy schmancy people with the big money. The type of person you kind of wished you was when u were younger. Wanted him to be an image of grandeur that Rene would initially look up to.
His face was ofc same thoughts as Mama, cus they're both meant to be rivals in the story. They constantly would butt heads lol. The chain around his neck was like a metaphor I made about him being "chained" to his victims. He is nothing without their attention, without their intense fear, their hatred, and such. He cannot thrive. He is dependent on them just as they are to him. (i often drew art of him and Rene being chained together I shall post them soon!)May 1, 2024
