Heart's Supernova 2

Chapter Two - Rule breakers

(these first two chapters were really just to define all of the important initial points, chapter 3'll have more actual structure to it, and Imi takes over as narrator :D)

"Francis! Hurry up before Lord Lichanura leaves without you!" A deep, masculine voice rumbled out.
"Y..yes! Just a moment!"
From far within the abandoned old mines of Retaeshif, a small group of three trudged along the oily, rocky tunnel with just one wooden torch in hand. Lagging behind, the infamously short and lavender skinned demon, Francis, followed. Beautifully intricate lampposts with no flame inside were stretched for miles into the distance, dripping with hardened wax, the trails were printed with muddy boots and hoof marks from those who'd travelled here before. Not a single shred of light aside from the torch was let in, the only sounds being of stones and tiny pebbles being kicked about, heavy footsteps, fire flickering and the churning of metal.
"Gosh... I understand that his base has to be out of sight but... haah... really..? He couldn't have made the path any easier..?"
"You're such a complainer! Shush. Lord Lichanura will not tolerate such slanderous remarks."
"R..right..."
Finally taking another route, the group entered a large cavern with a luxurious crimson carpet running down the church-like aisle.
"Citizens."
Centre stage... upon the distant cathedral podium, basking in the light of artificial, stained glass reflections, was an overwhelming soul upon a powerful black mare's back. With ivory skin deepened by piercing blue eyes, a menacing stance and terrifying stature, sat a stern man — the God's exiled brother, Lichanura.
"The day will soon come, where we, Underground Moon, shall rise to glory. We shall purge the poison he has spread." He approached, the sound of his horse trotting echoing through the vast stadium of a cathedral.
"My dear proxies and workers. Our carers and the injured." Lichanura began to speak as his sharp eyes scanned the room full of injured, quivering angels, from demons in full hospital gear, to the stern soldiers lining the doors. "I assure you that tomorrow will be brighter. This is an uphill battle, yes, but we will prevail. Please do not lose hope as easily as that man."

Awkward silence permeated the humid air.
"Imi? Now, dear mushroom, why would this colourfully haired, tan man with mechanical wings and a nasty attitude ever be my dear Imi? They're nothing alike! Have you eaten too much fungi and lost your marbles? Come, come, you must be off to bed! You've simply lost your head!"
"...Seraph..." it whined, deeply frustrated.
"Mn. Trainee— no, Exile Seraph, I expected you had matured since last we met. I'm not fond of being incorrect like this."
A loud tut and a scoff came from Seraph as he fired a sharp glare toward Imi, his fists were balled up and his knuckles a bright white.
'Utterly delusional...'
"How cruel it is to wear the face of a dead man." Words formed from his quivering lips as he began his trudge to the exit.
"Exile Seraph? What's ya problem—" Before Imi could even finish his question, an extravagant blade of sharpened feathers launched, just narrowly missing his cheek, lodged instead within the wooden walls of the old store.
"I said.
How cruel you are,
to parade around in the skin of a dead man."
Silence soon followed as the store's bell jingled and Tremella was left all alone with what it believed to be Imi.
"..." It looked awkward, like it made a mistake. "...he's right... his friend is dead."
"Ahh... uhm. Right. He certainly hasn't changed much." Perhaps his expression was conflicted as he sighed with his head in his palm.
"...bye bye..." With that, Tremella strolled out of the store in search of it's foolish angel.

Somewhere dark and gloomy...
Tall, golden brown walls covered in cork boards and stuffed to the brim with notes, pins and red connecting lines surrounded a cluttered, messy desk. Frantically scribbling multiple papers at once, the floors became even more littered with papers covered in plans and extremely elaborate plots. The darkness was quickly disturbed as a slither of warm light burst in through the opening door.
"Your majesty," an angel with perfectly folded wings, golden eyes and golden hair carefully stepped into the room. "I gathered the information you requested."
"Please, knock next time." Gruff yet with a slightly romantic tone, the booming voice of a man replied. "Pin it to board eighteen thousand and send Guard no.29,078 to read it over and summarise it."
"Yes, sir."
Once the young angel had left and the only source of light was closed off, he grumbled, gnashing his jagged teeth together. His heavy dark circles were so apparent as he narrowed those restless eyes of his.
"That Lichanura..." Clenching his fists and holding his instinct to shatter the desk, he growled out, "he's changing his damned strategies again."

Beautifully blended with vibrant crimsons and oranges, the evening sky paired up together with warm, fluffy clouds to cast a brilliant scenery over the treetops. Upon his secret viewing spot, he held onto the loose bark of the trees, clumsily grasping at leaves as he ascended further. Stubby green trees covered the view for miles, filling the gorgeous landscape with a lively colour and hearty warmth. A spectacular sight he considered himself undeserving of.
Grunting with annoyance, he smacked the dense leaves with a pout on his pretty, pink lips.
"Move, you silly things! Hmph... So obsessed with ruining my mood!" He kicked and punched his way through, ripping the twigs from his lilac to yellow tipped hair and shaking the dirt from his sandals.
"Ow–" With a flustered wince, Seraph's wing caught on a wild branch, regardless, he climbed on, even with the sharp throbbing of his sensitive wing. He was so easily distracted while he moved, his eyes were firmly upon the dying sun. Through his pale golden eyes, he viewed the glorious sunset, his subtle expression calming down yet not daring to smile.
"...Seraphim..." The familiar voice of Tremella caught him off guard which in response, broke his trance.
"H– Tremella, dear? When did you learn of this place..?!" As he shifted to face Tremella, he grasped at the air instead of the tree, stumbling like a fool and slipping. In his panic he attempted to reach for the bark, only to tear it straight off and continue his fall wide-eyed and directly into Tremella's arms, bark clutched tightly in his hands and his fingernails dug deep into the wood.
"...Seraphim." It spoke so softly while it held him close. "...please have more caution..."
"Wh? I..? That doesn't answer my question, Trem..!" He complained, clumsily jumping onto his own two feet and brushing himself off. "You really shouldn't know of this place." Sighing and shaking his head, he sat down in the grass and averted his gaze toward the canopy of leaves above.
"...I do though..." It sat close beside him.
"Unfortunately true." A brief pout later, he accepted the situation.
Once again, there was complete silence other than the soft twittering of birds and crickets hopping about. With a quiet breath, he rested his head on Tremella's cozy, soft shoulder.
"It's going to get cold soon, Tremella. You should head back home." He spoke softly, yet his gaze was downcast, his pupils never once moved towards Tremella.
"...don't wanna. We're cuddling." It whispered subtly as it stroked Seraph's cold hand.
"Aren't you supposed to be a monster? How dare you be so comforting." A heavy sighing breath and the biting of his quivering lip was how he delivered his sharp words.
The silence was peaceful between the two of them as the shade and sunset enveloped them in warm orange light.
"...you're supposed to be a strong, commanding angel. How dare you be so sorrowful yet never demand comfort from me."

"What a shame..."
Deep within the darkness of night, stars slowly began to decorate the sky. Leant over the white convertible and sighing once again, Imi stared at the setting sun over the extensive, glimmering river. "I don't know what I'd hoped for."
He gazed carelessly at the sleepy ducks and geese, at the home lights slowly shutting off. Gently, his eyeshadow decorated lids partly closed in his calm, relaxed state.
"Mie, look. Seraph and I are seeing the same set of stars for the first time in years." Smiling smugly, he tossed the little box into the car and climbed in onto the lilac leather seats.
"Once we're done scouting the damage, we'll go find Ori and search for where the amulet belonged. Can't have that Krait coming to snatch it back from me." He laid down a mattress and a few blankets on the backseats before clambering back there and kicking back to relax.
"Meeep!! Mipmipppp!!" It made a pouty expression on its small, metal face and bumped repeatedly against Imi's gloved hand.
"Come on, you know we can't stay here forever." He smiled playfully, stroking it's head, "Don't be silly, Sera– Mie.
...you can't always get what you want."
Resting his knuckles over his brow and looking toward the moon he closed his eyes.
"Mie, show me how many planets within the sixth nearest radius of this planet there were twenty seven years ago."
"Mip!!" With a flourish and rapid darting about, the little box projected hundreds of vibrant and glorious planets and worlds, it shon a few crosses and lines over the most 'ideal' planets and then nestled to sit on Imi's headband.
"Mn... We've explored from this planet-" He brushed away the projection of a line of worlds, "-to this planet. Ugh. None of the artefacts we've located match either. Arghh..."
Spontaneously, he sat up and stretched.
"Mie, I swear... if we gotta pay a visit to Krait to ask about the darn thing, I'll lose my mind..."
"Miiiii!!! Meep, mip..!"
"Yeah, I get it. I am giving in too quickly, we should still have time if we work hard enough. I should have more trust in Lichanura to hold back the destruction too, mhm." A groan escaped him when he placed his head on the door of his car and mentally plotted his course of action.
Tap! Tap! Tap!
"...'Imi'. Wanna chat with you."
Slowly, he lifted his head to meet eyes with the bizarre mushroom creature before him.
"Uhh. You're Seraph's little friend, right?"
It nodded subtly and leant in.
"...You and Francis are suspicious to me."
"Hm? Just what are you getting--"
"Francis left so abruptly after Seraph told us his story about you. I thought maybe you and Francis were working together but that felt too obvious... You know something. You know about 'us'... Don't you?"
His eyes widened at what the little mushroom showed him - the case that once held the amulet he had stolen from Krait. How... how did the strange creature have access to that - how did it know Imi had anything to do with that missing necklace and gem?

Stumbling, exhausted footsteps of mega-high heels gently approached from outside the beige painted walls of the moderate sized house. The heels of the demon brushed briefly against the bristly welcome mat before he just casually kicked them off and stepped into the house. As his hand reached for the light switch, he heard a distinct shuffling sound and skeptically he turned on the light, readying his dagger.
As the ceiling lamp flooded warm light into the room, it became apparent to poor Francis the scene about to play out.
"Welcome home, my beloved cheater!" There he was, that troublesome angel. Seraph gently tugged at Francis' cheeks while speaking, "Where've you been all day? Your absence made poor Tremmy cry and it had to go walkies to clear its sad little head... Francy, you're so evil and cruel, you hate us sooo much!" He repeatedly jabbed at his cheek, pouting playfully.
"Work, I literally told you before I left!" Those annoyed words could barely be heard as Seraph continued to play around with him and contort his face in all sorts of bizarre ways.
"Did'ya? Prove it!"
"Hah?! How do I prove that I've been at work?!" He scoffed, crossing his arms.
"Tell me every single thing you did at work today and don't spare a single detail!"
"That's ridi--"
Just as the heat of the playfight rose, the door flung open once again.
"...raining." Tremella stood there in the entryway, soaked in rain.
"Oh, my poor, dear little mushroom!" Seraph's hand hit his chest as if he'd been shot and leapt to Tremella's aid. "Here, come along, come along. I'll run you a bath and get your bed all cozy for sleep mhm?"
"...thank you, that's appreciated."

"Tell me. What are your findings, No.29,078?"

"The Underground Moon are heading to the southern entrance in five days time. We should act quickly."

"I don't trust it. Where is the information sourced? Was it something said to a mole, was it a flier, a letter?"

"A spy of ours, sir. I understand your hesitancy though."

"Hm... 29,078, split the army into four segments and send two segments to each entrance point. Supply multiple competent members of each unit with communication devices and once the Underground Moon invade their desired entryway, we unite as one to prevent and destroy the invasion. Spare no one."

"Yes, sir. I shall call a mass meeting for tomorrow morning."

"...that will be all. Farewell.

And soon... farewell Underground Moon."
