Out of curiosity I started watching the infamous animated series "High Guardian Spice" after all the negative comments I've seen. Is curious whenever people talk so bad about a product, all it does is to want me to check it myself.

True is... It wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. I dare to say, it was enjoyable and if I were some 15 or 20 years younger I would binged the whole thing. Is not perfect, the animation, the voice acting and some parts of the plot really need some work, but it wasn't the abomination as it was described by haters. The main thing is the show doesn't seem to have clear to what audience is aiming to. The first episode seems to be good for kids, but then it has some gore moments later that makes it more for teens. Well, maybe is because I'm an old individual who is not an anime fan, but it gave me the sensation that it didn't deserve the hate it got. Is far from a master piece, but not a monster that deserves to be that punished. I can't, but feel sad for the creator (who in Hispanic america, where I'm from, had to deal with a lot of transphobia as well as he was constantly and intentionally treated as a "she" by those who made negative reviews of the show)

The one thing that’ll always puzzle me about high guardian spice is why it’s on crunchyroll which is an anime streaming site when it looks more like something I’d see on Disney Channel or Cartoon Network.
I haven't watched the whole show but honestly since I watched soooo many reviews I basically know the characters and the plot, I think I can say that I know enough about it

First I want to say that of course no one should harass and shit on the show's staff and creators no matter how they think the show is bad, this is just shitty behavior. Also you totally have the right to enjoy it, no problem with that and no one should be laughed at based on what they enjoy

But

I use it as a benchmark of what NOT to do in writting and worldbuilding (I won't talk about the animation, yeah it can get very wonky but it's not that bad). Overall the show is a good kind of bad, you can enjoy it because it's funny as hell to laugh at the characters and their stupidity and at the same time it's a learning experience.
However I don't entirely agree with what @/da_key said about the LGBTQA+ representation. Of course a show featuring LGBT characters doesn't HAVE to be perfect, but at least the representation should be done correctly. Because honestly... eh, the infamous "I'm transgender" scene with Carraway and Rosemary is so awkward. We are in the right to ask for good quality representation, which I believe HGS doesn't have (maaaybe Snapdragon is not too bad?... but it sure was a little bit weird too)
Also is it just me or are the male characters of this show either jerks or morrons? Putting aside Carraway and Snapdragon because of course they're LGBT so they're good, you know. Also I hated that scene between Snapdragon and Sage when she basically says that girls have a ✨️different✨️ and ✨️deeper✨️ kind of friendship than boys, and it's treated as if she's right (at least from what I remember I may be wrong). Ugh. This is just like toxic masculinity to me.

I'm gonna stop here, I could go on for hours especially about the worldbuilding. But as I said, it's totally fine if you enjoyed it! The show doesn't deserve to be punished, indeed.
I didn't watch it and don't really have the desire to, but I also feel like It's not as terrible as everyone says. After all, why are we Not allowed to have a flawed messy show that features queer characters? Again, bc I haven't watched it I can't make any certain statements, but the whole situation makes me feel like it has something to do with people expecting a lgbt+ rep show to be perfect. Also yeah, there were trans creators and voice actors involved and I'm sad they got caught in the criticism in This way, with their identities being used as an argument why it's bad

Glad you enjoyed it! We don't have free serotonin laying around these days, after all
