Question for my fellow OC artists, how do you come up with names for your OCs? I have so many OCs I’ve created, but I can never come up with a good name for them! Please help ;-;Apr 16, 2021

I typically just default to puns, wordplay, and references to old literature or real life events/objects

Baby name websites, I usually try to find names that are related to their nationality, it helps narrow down choices :3)

I usually look at the oc and then find names that means something that reflects the character (like, if it's a noble character, I find names that means noble ^^)

•If I don’t already have a basic idea of what I want, I browse baby name sites and choose one that sounds good

Name generator randomize a ton of times, then sometimes change a couple of letters after Toby Tobi Tobie
Or Google something like "names that mean evil" haha or depending on the personality of your character

•A bunch of mine are still unnamed and a bunch of the rest I Google baby name websites or like “Greek name for mountain flower”

Baby names or I keep them with no names until I either remember of a name I like (or read a name elsewhere)

Hello! For me, I think it’s nice to have a reason/story behind the name or think of keywords that describe your character 
For example, a water fairy or mermaid oc could have a name related to her water powers like Aquaria, Marina, etc.
Or even derive a name by translating keywords of her character into different languages like Mizu, Syrena etc.
Like what others have said, there’s also a certain charm with naming OCs after inanimate objects/elements of nature like Waterlily, Ripple, etc.
Most importantly, try not to stress over OC names too much! OC creation should be fun and exciting, there’s no pressure, you don’t need to create a complete and fully developed character in a day 
Creating stories and characters is always a journey and I hope you enjoy every bit of it!

With many.. and many of my oc’s!
some of their names I came up with on the spot!
but for some others, like ones that are related to other characters:
I’d make it so that you can tell their related just by names along!

Jennifer ((the daughter of Jace))
Mia
Mango ((the son of Mia))

behindthename is like the website i use the most and i usually try to like fit a theme and like if the oc has a specific ethnic origin it like gives you a base with some cultural names

•It depends. Sometimes names just randomly come to me, sometimes I look at baby name sites until one sticks, sometimes I choose names with specific meanings, and other times I'll name them after a person/character/etc that relates to them.

I lie down and think for a moment. I also go online and search up names that mean a specific thing in mind.

Honestly it took me YEARS to come up with names and that's just for the main.characters of my story. I don't like using a name generator cause that's not special. I asked my friend to name one of them honestly

I’m notorious for naming inanimate things constantly so I just. Stare at them for a little while and then go oh well guess you look like a....an honk? Toot??? Okay your name is toot now.
It really is just whatever they grow to vibe with, or whatever the first thing that pops into your head becomes that sounds nice!! Baby name sites or themed names (like flowers or planet names etc) are also really good lists to just go through and sound off in your head until it sticks. Have fun with it

•I have a list of names that I’ve adored for years and they usually come to mind when i make a character, they dont always have to have a deep meaning or actually be inspired by anything as the character would usually have more depth in personality n all that. If not I can gladly pull some names out for you if you need!

•I usually have a word or name pop into my head whenever I’m drawing the character, but my characters often have edgy or cringy names. I also sometimes look up names for specific cultures that fit the character, even if they’re not canonically from that culture.
