OH AND THE LUNAR CHRONICLES - Marissa Meyer. sci-fi, fantasy. book series. retelling of several classic fairytales but with a sci-fi twist. this is by far one of my favorite series + authors.
actually, read everything from marissa meyer.
1) Heartless: fantasy, stand-alone. retelling of the queen of hearts' story
2) Renegades: sci-fi, superhero, trilogy. the only trilogy i've read where the books get progressively better and not worse

•I LOVE BOOK REC QUESTIONS
1. Little Women - Louisa May Alcott. slice of life. set and written in the 1800s. even better experience if u read up on the making/publishing of the book + the author's life. a lot of feminist themes.
2. No Longer Human - Osamu Dazai. semi-autobiographical, psychological. this book changed my LIFE. its considered to be the author's sucde note, so read up on his life as well.
3. And Then There Were None - Agatha Christie. mystery, thriller. this book scared the crap out of 5th grader me. beginning's a bit slow, but once you start getting to the mrdrs...
4. Circe - Madeleine Miller. mythological. poignant and powerful, you'll feel every emotion reading this. if you've read song of achilles, you NEED to read circe as well.
5. Gulliver's Travels - Jonathan Swift. satire, adventure. on the surface, it's a cute adventure novel, but it's a well-disguised critique of early 1700's britain (author lived in the same time period). read sparknotes after every chapter bc it tells you the history that the author is referencing.
6. Howl's Moving Castle - Diana Wynne Jones. fantasy, adventure. the inspiration for the ghibli adaptation, but they are two very different stories.(both r very good) the book is more whimsical + fast-paced, with more focus on the theme of beauty.

•I can recommend every Disk World story of Terry Pratchett if you're into fantasy with a lot of humor.

I'm forever recommending Deeplight by Frances Hardinge it's my favourite book ever
Other than, The Diviners by libba bray, Six of Crows by leigh bardugo and Saint death's daughter by C. S. E. Cooney are soo good I love them all so much

- the secret history by donna tartt (if you like dark academia)
- sweet bean paste by durain sukegawa (short & sweet, about a guy who makes red bean pancakes & the friends he makes)
- the 7 & 1/2 deaths of evelyn hardcastle by stuart turton (really amazing murder mystery)
- house in the cerulean sea by tj klune (wholesome, found-family content with a bit of fantasy elements)

I'm currently reading and liking Daughter of the Moon Goddess and am a huge fantasy reader so...Woven by Michael Jensen - I read it long ago and it was interesting. Spellbinding by Maya Gold is a book about witches and some romance in contemporary times. I haven't read any of these but they're in my TBR after reading the synopsis: A Day of Fallen Night, Twisted series by Ana Huang (romance), The Foxglove King, A Venom Dark and Sweet by Judy Lin, Queen of Myth and Monsters, Iron Widow. If you're okay with queer themes, I've read a few fantasies: A Taste of Gold and Iron, Lore & Lust series by Karla Nikole, Apollo Ascending series (I read #1, a retelling of Apollo and Hyacinth). I think that should be enough so see what you like and I hope the ones I haven't read can be recommended back to me

Shadow and Bone, slash Six of Crows. Many people regard Six of Crows to be better, but Shadow and Bone comes first chronologically and SoC is a bit confusing in the beginning if you start with that. But you absolutely can if you dont want to commit to reading 5 books (SaB has 3, SoC 2). It has great worldbuilding, it's a fantasy story set in a ~1900s-type world
