Birdtober Day 11: Little Blue Heron

[Inktober Day 12 / Birdtober Day 11] I went on a walk last night to find my next bird and watched a little blue heron wade through the lake, stalking its dinner. These stunning birds, half the size of the great blue heron, begin their lives almost entirely white. By their second year, they take on their slate blue and purple plumage. In the mating season, their purple changes to a shaggy maroon. In the fall with the setting sun, though, they appear quite dark and slender.

I'm exhausted today, but I did get my walk in and found tomorrow's bird as well
