Usually I try to create interest by exaggerating shapes of certain aspects
Like smaller/ more realistically shaped hair with a big exaggerated top (like a big puffer coat or popped collar)
Or big big fluffy hair or big horns or hat, small/simple top, and big shorts/pants and shoes.
I’d suggest watching Ross Draws’ video on YouTube “How I Create and Design Original Characters! (OC’s)” it was super helpful for simplifying the process of designing a character
Basically just keep drawing this silly guy like over and over and you’ll kinda naturally start gravitating towards whatever feels right yk? One of my main ocs, (Persephone) used to look completely different, but every time I drew her she slightly changed until my drawings of her became more consistent
