Rest in Power, Akira Toriyama

About a fortnight ago, we tragically lost the world's greatest mangaka, Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball. The news shocked so many people, including myself, and I was deeply saddened by his passing. May his soul Rest In Power in the Year of the Dragon and forever more

I drew this tribute art of Goku surrounded by Shenron to honour Toriyama sensei for his masterpiece on the Dragon Ball series that played a massive impact on my childhood and inspired so many other renown manga artists. Without Toriyama, I could imagine so many Shonen mangas wouldn't be around today. While drawing this, I listened to the iconic song of Cha La Head Cha La, the first opening of Dragon Ball Z, and the original Japanese opening and closing of Dragon Ball GT. I got really immersed with the nostalgia and was able to reconnect with my childhood through this reminiscent ️ At the same time, I was quite emotional because it hurts that Toriyama sensei has already left this world, but his legacy will always live on and continue to inspire more people, including emerging mangakas. I cannot thank Akira Toriyama enough for the wonderful memories, and I'm really grateful he shared his creativity with all of us. Fortunately, the theme for the @shy_peoples_art_club is "Dragon Ball," and this drawing is my submission

Along with Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dragon Ball shaped my childhood, and it was an opening door that got me into anime and manga and motivated me to explore other series like Bleach and Rurouni Kenshin. I have many fond memories of the Dragon Ball series when I was a kid. It all started when I was in primary school, I really enjoyed watching Dragon Ball, Z, and GT on VHS and DVD and remembered how hyped I was whenever seeing Goku go Super Saiyan and performing kamehameha! I found the manga to be very adventurous. I also remember I used to doodle Goku a lot but often bin them because they didn't turn out accurate. My most unpopular opinion is that Dragon Ball GT was a great spin-off.
