So im gonna chat here a little about my "relationship" sketchbooks and what i think about it since uhhh i love them :3
Since i like to do digital artworks mainly i found myself not really using sketchbooks in my highschool times. At that time "calarts sketchbooks" were like a ideal sketchbook for me and that kinda putted a fear of messing up. "what if my sketchbook doesnt look good enough?", "what if i mess up this page" was in my mind a lot.
That was until i go to an art course for talent exams. I saw a lot of art Kids and their sketchbooks for the first time. They were afraid of the same things as well. Our art teacher teached us about
"thumbnails" and that changed almost everything!
I got a reaaaally old sketchbook (it has a very interesting story btw.. A real conversation opener) and i started to draw whatever i wanted there.
With time i found my favorite mediums and used them all the time in my sketchbooks. Rn i have different kinds of sketchbooks in my hand! One for thumbnails, one for character design, one for finished pieces (or more detailed) and one for uhh every kind of thing (i like to call it s**tbook).
Sketchbook are a place where you experiment and use what you love the most! Its like one of the most u thing.
Its where you learn new things!
So conclusion is uhhh sketchbooks dont need to be perfect, its in the name sketch-book (Ofc you might want to do polished art and i do as well ;3). I think sketchbook reflecting you is the most important thing.Nov 25, 2023

I owned like 5 sketchbook at home and bring 2 to school 
, usually my artmedia A4 sketchbook is for my portfolio and my A5 is for my planning on comic’s related, the other 3 are for doodles, to be fair i love all my sketchbook even tho i cringed looking at my old art, but guess its called improving :D

For me, sketchbooks have always been "sh*tbooks" tbh. I always draw whatever I want in them.
That really common experience artists have, of "being afraid of messing up"? Never had it myself.
I think it's because I started using sketchbooks since early on (they were really cheap, I didn't care about that though) and I wasn't exposed to "pro's sketchbook" like you were with the Calarts ones.
I just drew whatever. I still draw whatever, I don't have them organized either, I even draw in old ones that still have some space left, so they aren't even separated by year lol
I kind of wish I had them organized like you, I think it would be cool.
I would need to buy new ones to do it though, since all sketchbooks I already have, have been used to some point (they aren't all full—again, not organized, I use the one I grab first, so... There's a bunch of them that have a lot of blank pages left lol)

Sketchbooks are great :D I do end up with a bunch at the same time cause some are more for thumbnails and others are for watercolor or alcohol markers. A lot of my quick and loose character designs come from them.
