Here's a philosophical question I've been thinking about a lot: what is the purpose of your art? Or better yet, what is the purpose of sharing your art? (I'll put my answer in comments too)Apr 29, 2021

The purpose of my art is that it’s my form of therapy. I share it cause I don’t it to confine it myself I want it to be free even if I feel a tad insecure about how it turned out I’m still gonna let it go.

•Because I want to share the little world that lives inside my mind and drawing is easier then writing sometimes ^^

•The purpose of my art has changed a bit throughout the years but, currently, it’s a way to make me happy. I am easily overwhelmed, there is a lot of scary things happening and I’m anxious. I like to imagine worlds that are simpler, and calmer. It’s nice to feel in control too when nothing else is.
The purpose in sharing my art is to interact with others. It kind of acts as an icebreaker for me when meeting people (both online and in real life). It isn’t easy to reach out to others, but I’ve found it gives me courage to keep meeting ppl and I rlly enjoy it when ppl like what I make!

•I make art to kinda escape reality. I used to take inspiration from a lot of fantasy photography and art, and a lot of the fantasy books I had as a kid made me want to create my own worlds, concepts and stuff. I'm working on circling back to that. Eventually I'd like to make a living off of it.
I think I share it more because I'd like to find like minded friends, but as an introvert it's an inner battle of wanting friends and not wanting to talk to anyone, lol. & also it'd be kinda validation for myself that I can actually make it if more people (rather than just a couple friends and family) like my art, if that makes sense.

•My current purpose in my art is to spread happiness and positivity through the bright colours :)

•I love doing illustrations that are sweet or cute but the thing that made me want to start was to be able to tell a story or express something through an illustration or comic. I always found that so amazing and wonderful. I still have much to improve but I have to put in the effort to start getting out there, you know xD it makes me happy to draw and improve. To then see knew people that inspire me or make me realize I can try something different or have me set a new goal by learning how they do things. It’s the thing that makes me the most fulfilled and happy

•i liked art as a little kid because other kids and parents would praise me for it and that shit felt good haha. now as an adult i make art for money (like jobwise) but also i make art for my personal comfort. i share my art cause i hope to connect and collaborate with others like minded people!

•I like exploring concepts and thoughts through stories, especially more complex ones that I could never really find the words for. I wasn’t posting art art where before here because of that, as there’s not much motive to share one off pieces.

•Comfort I suppose?
There are a lot of things that have happened in my life where I feel I cannot trust the people around me that much anymore, like I can’t lean on them for any support. Drawing characters who are just so loving and protective gives me a sense of security, if that makes sense.
Posting them? Well,
I want everyone else to feel comfortable and supported as I did to these characters. I’ve been having a hard time showing that recently and I aim to change it, to really show that these characters are meant for comfort and to protect.

•I think my reason for making art is simply to create something. It's a way to express myself and show myself without me having to pick the right words. The reason I share my art is mainly the reason I make my ocs. It's so that I can show some representation and maybe make others feel seen the same way I feel seen through my art. I make fun little ocs and fun little stories for them and it really just feels like a good way to share something of myself to the world. This is how I contribute.

•My art helps me to understand and control what I'm feeling. I have a variety of mental health problems and my art is a way to help keep me focused and grounded. My stories and characters are my escape and a way to explore my feelings.
Sharing my art was just for fun, it was always nice to make friends with simar interests. It also helped to have my art posted online so I wouldn't lose it if anything happened to my computer.
These days my art is my job so I share my art to reach clients.

•For me, I live and breathe art, whether it's through my own or others', but there's something about contributing to the neverending universal library of art that exists in the world. I also feel a sense of responsibility or obligation that I have to share my thoughts and experiences, to connect with people. That can be done through things other than art, but I think a visual art form is a lot easier for me to communicate. I also think artists do a service to this world even if what they provide is silly little comics or a cute frog illustration. It brings joy, and I don't think there's anything wrong with having a purpose as simple as that! I think having a purpose helps a lot when you feel stuck, and to remind you the "why" of what you're doing. It helps me overcome those days of when I'm feeling like "what's the point?"
Curious to hear everyone else's thought!

I guess I just want to share something I enjoy doing. It's not actually want I want to do in life, it's just a hobby, so I guess the purpose is to get enjoyment out of it
